The waiting list is an option available through the Smoke Management System if your burn request cannot be approved for the day requested. When a location is added to the waiting list, you will be called on the afternoon prior to the day you will be allowed to burn and asked to call back if you want to burn. If you are unable to burn and do not make a return call, you will retain your position on the list and will be called the next time burn allocation is available in your area. You may defer up to three (3) times without forfeiting your place on the waiting list.
If you receive a call informing you that a burn from the waiting list is now eligible to proceed, you may choose to burn on the following day or defer to a later date.
To confirm that you want to burn on the following day, call the automated system between the hours of 4:00pm to 7:00pm. These hours are specifically set aside by the system to offer and accept Waiting List burn allocations, when available, for the following day. If you call after these hours, your exclusive reservation may be lost and given to others on the list. However, if allocation is available when you call, you may still receive authorization to burn.
If the system rejects your request, allocation may have reached its maximum. This may also happen if you call outside the 4:00pm to 7:00pm window and your reserved burn allocation may have been released and given to others. If this occurs, your place on the waiting list will be retained and you will be called the next day that burning is available in your geographic area.
If you are unable to burn on the date offered, simply do not return the call to the automated system. Your place on the waiting list will be retained. You will receive a call the next day that burning is available in your geographic area. You may defer up to three (3) times without forfeiting your place on the waiting list. After the third deferment, you will need to request a new burn authorization.
