Community Engagement

District Community Engagement Work

Consistent with the District’s principles of community engagement, and building on decades of strong relationships with communities across the Valley, the District continues to seek opportunities to engage with residents, stakeholders, and community groups in areas not yet involved in the District’s community-level work, establishing and building on important relationships that help develop capacity for awareness of and utilization of services provided by the District.

AB 617

Assembly Bill 617 (AB 617) requires the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and air districts to develop and implement additional emissions reporting, monitoring, reduction plans and measures in an effort to reduce air pollution exposure in disadvantaged communities.

The District actively participates with and is facilitating full engagement of all sectors within each of the San Joaquin Valley’s disadvantaged communities through meaningful and effective implementation of AB 617. For more information on this program and ways Valley residents can get involved, visit the Valley Air District's AB 617 Community Air Program website.

EJAG

The Valley Air District holds regular meetings of the Environmental Justice Advisory Group (EJAG). These meetings are an opportunity for community leaders or interested individuals to learn about upcoming District rules, programs and issues coming before the District's Governing Board. These meetings are to encourage grass roots participation in District activities and outreach, and to ensure that all of the populations of the Valley are enfranchised in all aspects of the District’s mission.
